Mrs. Vivian Marie Lemmond Howie, 84, died Thursday, September 15, 2015, at The Haven in Pineville, N.C. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2015 at Belair United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Mallory Forte and the Rev. Barry Yates officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Born in Waxhaw, N.C., Mrs. Howie was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Lemmond and Rosa Lee McManus Lemmond. She was widowed by her husband, James Elliott Howie, just last year. Mrs. Howie loved her Lord and was a member of Belair United Methodist Church. She was well known as a gardener and was famous for her green beans and fig preserves.After raising her children, she went to school and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at Hawthorne Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital. Mrs. Howie loved her children and her grandchildren, and now it is up to us to carry on and practice all she taught us. We ask you to remember her with laughter, she would not want tears.Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Howie (Dianna) of Florida and Joseph “Joe” Howie (Amy) of Indian Land; two daughters, Jeania Blackwell (John) of Weddington, N.C. and Judy Barfield (Al) of Indian Land; here brother, Bill Lemmond (Sylvia) of North Carolina and Jeanette Mill (Buddy) of Virginia; ten grandchildren; and 7 1/2 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thank you to her friend and hospice caregiver, Joy Robinson, who she “adopted” as one of her own. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brother: Lucille, Sue, Betty and James.Memorial contributions may be made to Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land, SC 29707 or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
