Thomas "Tommy" Boatwright

Mr. Thomas Murray “Tommy” Boatwright, age 90, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at Westminster Health & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill.The graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Unity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.Born in Chesterfield, Tommy was a son of the late Tom and Bessie Oliver Boatwright. Tommy moved to Fort Mill when he was 19 years old to work for Springs Mills, retiring after over 40 years of service. He also worked for Porter’s Building Supply for several years and part-time with Wolfe Funeral Home for more than 50 years. Tommy was a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Fort Mill for over 40 years. He enjoyed deer hunting and gardening. Surviving are his children, the Rev. Gene Boatwright of Mt. Holly, N.C., Debbie Grumbles (Jim) of Indian Land, Tammy Carter (Frank) of Ehrhardt, and Darrin Boatwright (Rose) of Waxhaw, N.C.; five grandchildren, Katie (Jeff), Alex, Victoria, Jackson and Grayson; and three great-grandchildren, Lawson, Ava Claire and Anna. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Fite Boatwright in 2015 and by his second wife, Marilyn Lambert Boatwright in 2019.Memorials may be made to the Fort Mill Care Center, 2760 Old Nation Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715 or to St. Jude’s Children’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.Read Obituary
