Tanya Searcy Garris, age 51, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, February 17, 2019.Visitation to allow friends and family to celebrate Tanya’s life will be held in Marietta, GA on March 2, at the Searcy residence, 1243 Channel Park SW, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.There will be a memorial service in Tanya’s hometown on March 9th at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 318 College Street, Columbus, Mississippi. There will also be a family celebration of her life in Mangham, LA. at the annual Searcy Family Reunion.Tanya graduated from Caldwell High School in Columbus, Mississippi. She had a beautiful voice and was a member of the New Horizons Vocal Group at Mississippi University for Women where she was a full vocal scholarship recipient. Tanya worked in health care as an office administrator. She was a member of Elevation Church-Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC. She was very artistic, and enjoyed cooking, making wreaths, soaps, candles and crafting. Tanya loved the beach, enjoying the waves and ocean breeze. She loved her sweet babies - Boots, Princess, Rusty and Sophie.Surviving are her husband, John Patrick Garris and their son, Grant; her father, Elwyn Searcy and his wife Cindy of Marietta, Ga.; her mother, Rose Crowe, and her husband, Doug of Columbus, MS; sister, Teresa Searcy of Atlanta; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family, including her beloved Shih Tzu, Sophie.Memorials may be made to your local Humane Society or to Junior Daughters of the King-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 318 College Street, Columbus, MS 39701.Read Obituary
Aunt tanya was my candle in a dark cave through so many events in my life... to realize what has happened has had me shocked.. saddended.. always thought her kindness would have carried her far in life... what can I say I miss her so much. Hard to believe I talked to her a week before she passed. I love you aunt tanya- Tjay Rayer (nephew)
Tan was my best friend and sister . She had such a vivacious spirit about her. She could light up an entire room with her presence . She had a certain kindness about her that words are inadequate to describe . Many times I kidded with Tan that she would have made a great Attorney ! She would laugh saying , “ I know! , right ? “ I can’t recall the first thing that she could not do .
Upon recalling our last two weeks of conversations , I feel that a few of our loved ones should know how she spoke of them . The day before she passed , she told me about John’s birthday . She said and I quote ; “ I don’t know what I have done in my life that was so good that God gave me John Garris ! He had gotten out at midnight to get me some food ! “ She mentioned how excited about spending two weeks alone with her Dad during his recovery from back surgery meant to her as one on one . We chatted about what a wonderful
Mom Cindy had been . Cindy was a great example , very loving ,
and a very compassionate Mom to her . Her Dad was her hero . She loved he and Cindy very much . She loved her Son , Grant and had just bragged about how he was working and going to College . She mentioned what a wonderful Son Grant had been and had never given them a minute of trouble .
Tan was very happy that she and Teresa were chatting good chats.
Her Mother Rose and she had just chatted earlier that last week and she said my Mother took my advice on something . She was excited that she could help and was planning on visiting she and Doug after her Mother’s finger surgery. She loved them !
We loved each other unconditionally and often had our scraps but five minutes later , we were over it .

I am so deeply saddened at the unexpected passing of our dear and precious Tan. It still is so surreal that we will no longer see her beautiful face and hear her joyous laughter, during our days on this earth. I've always known Tanya to be compassionate, very considerate of others, and willing to help when help was needed. She greatly loved her family and her family loves and misses her deeply.

Tanya was a first rate lady with a beautiful voice. She had an effervescent personality and a smile that could light up the darkest of caverns. The world has suffered a terrible loss and is incomplete without her. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

Unfortunately, I did not know Tanya, but I am a friend of her mother. I was saddened to hear of Tanya ' s passing but I am thankful for her faith in the God of grace, comfort and love. My prayers go with the family every step of the way in this difficult time. Tanya was obviously a wonderful person.
