Raymond Earl “Smokey” Stover, Jr., age 57, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Atrium Main Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2022, in the chapel of Wolfe Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.Born in East Liverpool, Ohio, Smokey was a son of the late Raymond Earl Stover and Constance Sue Stephens Stover. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment operator. Smokey began his career with American Tree Care and later served as the arborist for Carowinds theme park for 14 years. He also owned Arborescent Tree and Landscape Maintenance from 2007 until 2012. Smokey enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his wife and children. He was also a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a member of the American Legion Eli Bailes Post #43.He is survived by his wife, Denise Kugler Stover; his sons, Dalton Stover (Bethany Carroll) of Grey Court and Derek Stover (Peyton Fisher) of Fort Mill; his first wife, Shawn Bare of Chester; his brothers and sisters, Rodney Stover of New York, Randall Stover of East Liverpool, Ohio, Crystal Smith of New Cumberland, W.V. and Connie McGill of Raeford, N.C.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Barbara Kugler; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Smokey was preceded in death by his brother, John William Stover and sister, Courtney Stover Yager.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you plant a tree to beautify the earth or make donations to OneTreePlanted.org, the American Diabetes Association, or to the American Stroke Association.Read Obituary

Sorry to hear of Smokey’s passing. Smokey was a good man, always smiling and treated you like an old friend. I enjoyed seeing Smokey on my trips around the park in the early hours of the morning at Carowinds while making my rounds before opening of the park.
Yesterday I planted a Golden Rain Tree in his honor in my back yard.
