Richard Carter

Mr. John Richard Carter, age 83, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2021, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Unity Cemetery.Born in Asheville, N.C., Mr. Carter was the only child of the late Charles Hubert Carter and Ruth Connell Carter. He attended Clemson University then proudly served for six years in the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Carter was active in the community, as a church member and teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church Fort Mill and at The Blake at Baxter Village, volunteering at the Fort Mill History Museum, and serving on the Fort Mill School Board. He also enjoyed playing golf and walking.Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Sue Burch Carter; his sons, John Richard Carter, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Brian Lee Carter and his wife Julie of Fort Mill; his grandchildren, Dylan, Alex, Addison, and Hannah.Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fort Mill, 121 Monroe White Street, Fort Mill, S.C. 29715.
