Mr. Ray Hucks, 82, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Wellmore in Tega Cay.The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at First Baptist Church Chapel, with the Rev. Shannon Ford and Andrew Limbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.Born in Fort Mill, Ray was one of fifteen children born to the late Joe Wade Hucks and Eva Preslar Hucks. He graduated from Fort Mill High School in 1954 and then served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force. Following his retirement, Ray went on to work 20+ years for C&S Tire Co. He was of a member of First Baptist Church and was a very active member of his Sunday school class. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed attending races. Ray also was a coin collector.Surviving are his daughter, Ashley Hucks of Asheville, N.C.; his sisters, Shirley Smith of Fort Mill, Mary Lee Dickson of Fort Mill, Jean Morton (Tally) of Lancaster Peggy Davidson of Charlotte and Sarah Osborne of Rock Hill; brother, Paul Hucks (JudY) of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Stegall, Ruby Wolfe, Josephine Cater, Nell Lee, James W. Hucks, Bill Hucks, Evelyn Bennett and Beatrice Whisonant.The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Wolfe Funeral Home, 314 Spratt St., Fort Mill.Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 121 Monroe White Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715; or to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Sincere sympathy to all who grieve Ray's death. We graduated from high school in the same class, and enjoyed being with him at reunions.He was a good person and a friend.
Uncle Ray was a great man and war hero. We will always remember him for all that he did for his family and his country.
