Phyllis Griffin Carswell

Mrs. Phyllis Griffin Carswell, age 77, of Fort Mill, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her home.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen H. Radcliffe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.Born in Fort Mill, Mrs. Carswell was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Hudson Harris Griffin and Sara Florence Richardson. She was a 1957 graduate of Fort Mill High School; she also graduated from King’s Business College. Mrs. Carswell worked for the Fort Mill School District, serving as secretary for the A.O. Jones School and later as a teacher’s aide at Fort Mill Junior High School. Mrs. Carswell was retired from Springs Industries as an executive secretary. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Fort Mill Historical Society and enjoyed playing bridge.Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Matthew “Eddie” Carswell II; her son, Matt Carswell and his wife, Becky Duke of Blythewood; her daughter, Claire Carswell of Arlington, Mass.; her brother, Jerry Griffin of Fort Mill; two sisters, Patricia Corley of Fort Mill and Carolyn Faught of Jackson, Tenn.; her granddaughter, Lettie Carswell of Arlington, Mass. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Collier Carswell (2006).In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s UMC, P.O.
