Peggy Staton, Mom, left us and went home to her Lord on January 7, 2017. A passage which she had long looked forward to. She passed away at Carolina Gardens in Rock Hill S.C., where she had resided for 14 months due to progressing Alzheimer's.Peggy was a lifelong resident of Indian Land S.C. and a graduate of Indian Land High School, where she later worked in the cafeteria alongside her mother and sister. She was loved by the students, the faculty and the community of Indian Land, often referred to by many as "Sweet Peggy", a nickname also given to her by the staff at Carolina Gardens. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indian Land for several years.Peggy was compassionate and loving with an enormous giving spirit. She would always help anyone she felt she could and was endlessly blessing someone’s heart. Even trying to help the other residents at Carolina Gardens when she felt they needed assistance. Her treasures in life were her family, friends, the Indian Land community, her memories of life and loved ones past, and seeing the wildlife that wandered through her yard, which just never happened often enough for her. And most of all her grandchildren, who always held a special place in their Nana's heart.Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Wilson Aycoth and William Bradford Aycoth of Indian Land S.C. and her sister, Margie Aycoth Mullis of Leland N.C.Peggy is survived by her husband, Harold Staton; her sister, Jean Riley and husband Louis of Fort Meyers Fla.; brother-in-law, David Mullis of Leland, N.C; daughters, Cindy Staton of Hampton Va., Sherry Staton Poole and her husband Tad of Myrtle Beach, S.C., her son, Tim Staton and his wife Michelle of Indian Land, S.C.; grandchildren, Dusty Staton, Cody Staton, Brittney Staton and Tyler Staton, all of Indian Land and Gracie Williams; nieces Debbie Krieg, Tami Riley and Ashley Keir; and nephew, Shelly Mullis. The family would like to extend a deep gratitude to the staff at Carolina Gardens for the care, compassion and love they gave our mom during her time there. Mom always spoke of how good you were to her and how much she loved you all, as she also did of the friends she had made there.A memorial service for Peggy will be held at 6 pm, January 17, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1519 Steel Hill Road, Van Wyck, SC. The family will receive visitors beginning at 5 pm prior to the service and immediately following the service.
