Oscar Downey McCall

Mr. Oscar Downey McCall, 80, of Union and formerly of Fort Mill, died Friday, March 17, 2017, at his home.The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Philadelphia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Becky Shirley officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will follow the services in the fellowship hall.Born in Fort Mill, Mr. McCall was one of six children born to the late James LeRoy McCall and Sadie Mae Osborne McCall. He graduated from Fort Mill High School and was a retired carpenter. Mr. McCall was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Fort Mill. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed working with bees and selling and giving honey to family and friends and reading.Surviving are his wife, Ruth Shipman McCall; two stepsons, Eddie Boone of Lancaster and Tracey Boone of Fort Mill; four stepdaughters, Tamara Deese of Monroe, N.C., Sherry Wood Hughey of Buffalo, S.C., Shonda Winders of the home and Crystal Workman of Pauline, S.C.; three brothers, Ambrose McCall of Salisbury, N.C., Douglas McCall of York and Roger McCall of Richburg; two sisters, Julia Ann McCall and Lavinia McCall, both of Fort Mill; a number of grandchildren, including two whom he helped raise, Mindy Teer and Stacey Boone Woodfin; and a number of great-grandchildren including a special great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Teer.
