Myra Barwig Helms

Mrs. Myra Barwig Helms, age 99 and originally from Fort Mill (Indian Land), S.C., passed away Monday, July 27, 2020, at her home.A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mrs. Helms had three brothers and was one of six daughters of the late Fred and Fannie Schwamp Barwig. She married Jack Wingate Helms in 1939 and they were married until his death in 1999. Mrs. Helms was a retired surgical technician at both Mercy Hospital and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She enjoyed many things in life but loved nothing more than her husband, children, and grandchildren. Being an excellent cook, Mrs. Helms was happiest when she would cook a huge meal and watch everyone eat, especially Daddy. Back in the day she loved to watch soap operas, tennis and ice skating matches. When able she attended St. Philip Neri church in Fort Mill. Surviving are three daughters, Maria H. (Lewis) Walker of Middlesex, N.C., Julie H. (George) Marshall of Rutherfordton, N.C. and Marianne H. (Robert)Barrett of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Samuel Lee (Lori) Marshall, Sonia (William) Lee, and Charlene Chris (Paul) Zielinski; and five great-grandchildren; Emma, Abigail, Annalise, Jackson, and Noelle.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O.
