Mary Griffin Barfield

Mrs. Mary Alice Griffin Barfield, 80, of Fort Mill, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at her home.The memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Riverview Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Allen Wolfe and Dr. Barry Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery.Mary was a graduate of Fort Mill High School Class of 1954, earning a Varsity Letter in Basketball and attended Winthrop University. She worked at Westinghouse Electric for more than 30 years where she worked in the personnel department. Mary was a founding member of Riverview Presbyterian Church where she played the piano and organ on and off for 50 years. A devoted steward to the church, she served in numerous capacities as elder and deacon while serving in the music program. In her spare time Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, watching Jeopardy and spending time at her house in North Myrtle Beach. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Fort Mill and the Lively Group. Special thanks to Evelyn from BrightStar for her love and care.Mary is survived by sons, Harold Alan Barfield, Sr. and fiancé, Kelly Jackson Clark and Kevin Todd Barfield and wife, Anna Parkes Barfield. She leaves behind three grandsons who she was tremendously proud of Harold Alan “A.J.” Barfield, Jr., of Fort Mill and Griffin and Kevin Barfield of Oceanport, N.J. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold (1990); her parents, Alfred D. Griffin and Inez Ghant Griffin; her siblings, Wade S Griffin and Marcene G. Cornwell-Klutz; and her infant son, Brian Dennis Barfield.Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Riverview Presbyterian Church in the sanctuary and other times at the home of Alan Barfield, 2724 Island Cove Road in Fort Mill.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverview Presbyterian Church, 124 North Sutton Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708.Read Obituary
