Mrs. Martha “Mott” Nims Hutchison, 64, of Fort Mill, died Monday, December 5, 2016, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill.A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Unity Presbyterian Church Historic Sanctuary, with Dr. Dan Holloway officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.Born in York County where she spent most of her life, Mott was a daughter of the late Frederick L. Nims and Myrtle Wallace Nims. She was a 1970 graduate of Fort Mill High School, attended Wingate Junior College and then Winthrop University.Mott was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church until her marriage to James E. Messer of Charlotte. They had two children, Kate and Graham. She joined the Plaza Presbyterian Church where she participated in a handbell choir and taught Sunday school. After moving back to Fort Mill in 1988, she joined Unity Presbyterian’s bell choir, played in their ladies softball league, taught a high school Sunday school class, was elected deacon, then an elder and served as clerk of session. She briefly changed her membership to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where she also served as an elder until returning home to Unity. She was always a supporter of the ladies auxiliary.Mott’s career was in banking, spending most of that time with Bank of America through its many mergers. There was a brief period she worked for the Belk Corporate Center before moving on to Clover Community Bank.In 2004, Mott married Rick Hutchison and declared him the “love of her life”. They moved from Fort Mill to a cotton farm in York where they retired. Mott wants to express a special thanks to Rick for taking her hand and walking that final journey with her to the Holy Land.Surviving are her husband, Rick Hutchison; her daughter, Kate Messer Hunter of Anderson, S.C. and her husband, Jonathan Hunter and her grandsons, Sylas and Phife Hunter. Also her son, Graham Edward Messer and his wife, Kelli Burns Messer of Charlotte, N.C.; her brother, Frederick W. Nims of Edgemoor, S.C.; stepson, Richard Burge Hutchison of Fort Mill, S.C.; stepdaughter, Christi Lee Hutchison and grandson, John Thomas Gregory of York, S.C. In addition to her parents, Mott is preceded in death by brother, Jack Massey Nims of Rock Hill, S.C.Memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hampton Wildlife Association, P.O.
