Margaret Wait

Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Cartwright Wait, in her 90th year, died peacefully in her sleep at home on May 18, 2022. She was born on July 29, 1931 in Savannah, GA to Edward Newsome Cartwright, Jr., and Mary Margaret Sullivan Cartwright. Betty was the third of four Cartwright daughters: Mary Cartwright Vaslet, Dorothy Agnes Cartwright, and Joan Marie Cartwright Madison, all of whom predeceased her. She and Francis Henry Wait, Jr (1929-2015) are survived by their five children, Francis Henry Wait III, George William Wait, Patrick Timothy (Karen) Wait, Margaret Elizabeth (Paul) Hance, and Anne Marie (Danny) Donnell, grandchildren Drew (Jess) Wait, Stokes Wait, Hannah Wait, Sam Wait, Addy Wait, Elizabeth (Andreas) Dravigny, David Wait, Sean Hance, Daniel Hance, Emily Hance, Caroline Donnell, Madeline (Noah) Toadvine, Jameson Donnell, and great-grandchildren Carter Wait, Dylan Wait, and Levi and Cohen Dravigny, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Betty Cartwright graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy in Savannah, GA in 1949, and received a scholarship to study nursing at Mercy School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She met Frank Wait while they were working at the Linen Thread Company, and they married in 1954 and settled in Baltimore, MD. She had a stellar nursing career as a Labor and Delivery nurse, and after retirement, she and Frank moved to Hendersonville, NC, her favorite place, in 1996. Most recently, she lived in Indian Land, SC and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Indian Land, SC. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her incredible life will be held at the church on June 6th, 2022, at noon.Read Obituary
