Mamie Deskins Prater

Mamie “Onk” Prater, 83, passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in her Fort Mill, South Carolina home. She was a native of Welch, West Virginia, born April 24, 1939, daughter of the late David and Beulah Cyphers Deskins. She was a graduate of Concord College and Marshall University Graduate College. Mamie’s career as an educator spanned throughout 5 decades with the majority of her time in the classroom spent with Cabell County Schools in West Virginia. She found her calling in teaching and truly loved her students.“Onk” will be remembered for her kindness, incredible strength, and most importantly her deep and unwavering faith. Her warm spirit and loving nature were a constant and shared with everyone she encountered. Known for her love of dolls and books, it is well documented that she never once passed up the opportunity to stop at a yard sale or thrift shop.She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. William C. Deskins. Surviving are her sons Jeff (Kristin, Bo & Jude) of Fort Mill, SC and Dave (Stacey, Colton & Brycen) of Bradenton, FL; sister-in-law Sandy Graham Deskins of Monroe, NC, and brother James Shannon of Phoenix, AZ.Psalms 46:10Read Obituary
