Louise "Tip" Yarborough

Mattie Louise Williams “Tip” Yarborough peacefully stepped into the waiting arms of her Master on March 7, 2018 while at home. One of six children, she was born on October 24, 1920 to the late Bertha Ola Williams and Noah Richardson Williams of Weddington, NC and married to her late husband David Olin Yarborough for 56 years. A longtime resident of Indian Land, SC, she attended Indian Land High School where she was a member of the basketball team and received various academic awards.“Maw-Maw” as she was known to her beloved grand- and great grand-children was a gracious, caring and loving mother and devoted wife, steeped in her relationship with Jesus who she accepted into her life at a very young age. Her relationship with Christ was evident throughout her 97 years on this earth as her life was marked by the grace of her Savior.A long-serving member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school to the children, pouring her love into their lives; she and her husband Olin were youth counselors for many years. An active member of the United Methodist Women, she received special recognition for her many years of service, later transitioning into the “M&M's” (Mature Members).An avid gardener, her yard in the spring exhibited an explosion of beauty reflecting her skill. It was a bounty that she was always willing to share with neighbors and friends.“Tip” was a retiree from Springs Cotton Mill in Fort Mill, where she worked in the spinning department. But that wasn’t the end of her labor as for many years afterward she helped her husband harvest hay, worked in the family restaurant and in a plant nursery.An excellent cook, “Maw-Maw” will certainly be remembered for her biscuits, pound cake and her ability to put an excellent meal on the table at a moment’s notice, reflecting her servant's heart.The family would like to thank Marilyn Catledge, for the devotion and love she gave as caregiver to our Mama for almost four years; to the Providence Care Hospice team for their love and concern; to the ladies from Visiting Angels who provided care in her last days and to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ who were so kind to provide meals and prayers during this difficult time.Mattie Louise is survived by her brother, Jimmy Williams of Rock Hill, SC; her son, Jerry Yarborough and his wife Margie of Jacksonville, FL; her daughters, Barbara Yarborough of Rock Hill, SC and Muriel Yarborough Abercrombie and her husband Gray of Fort Mill, SC; grandsons: Maj. Saddler Taylor of Irmo, SC; CPO Benjamin Abercrombie and his wife Elizabeth of Chesapeake, VA; Lynn Yarborough and his wife Debra of Fernandina Beach, FL; Bryan Yarborough and his wife Dinah of Tampa FL and David Yarborough and his wife Lisa of Abbeville, LA. She also is survived by 18 great-grandchildren.Mattie Louise was preceded in death by her brothers; Woodrow Williams and Pete Williams of Rock Hill, SC; sisters, Helen Williams of Rock Hill and Bert Jennings of Spartanburg, SC; and grandson, Dean Yarborough of Jacksonville, FL.Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Wolfe Funeral Home.The celebration of her life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Indian Land, with the Rev. Joel McMakin officiating.
