Jean arrived in Fort Mill in 1936 so that she could attend first grade while still five years old. She graduated from Fort Mill High School and following her education at Winthrop College began working at Culp Brothers, Inc. in Fort Mill. She enjoyed her position there as executive secretary/accountant/Girl Friday in charge of everything for 60 plus years before retiring. Jean was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church throughout her life and volunteered in numerous ministry opportunities. Jean was loving, caring, compassionate, selfless, intelligent, and adventurous. She possessed the unique ability to connect with everyone she met and make them feel special. Just shy of her 91st birthday, Jean recently remarked, “I’ve had a wonderful life. I wouldn’t change a thing.” Jean is survived by her son, Philip J. Schwerin of Fort Mill, her two sisters, Jill York of Lake Wylie, SC and Janet (Steve) Ashley of Wake Forest, NC, her sister-in-law Doris Marks of Fort Mill and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
