James Robert Knight Sr.

James Robert “Pops” Knight, Sr., age 90, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at his home.The funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at the Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. Mark Leonhardt, Bob Lang and Marvin Godfrey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.Born in Bridgton, Maine, Pops was a son of the late Erland Knight and Violet Elnora Trumble Knight. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Pops was retired from Springs Industries. He was a faithful member of the Fort Mill Church of God, a member of Prayer Partners and Because We Care (visited the sick). Pops also taught Sunday school at Meadow Haven Nursing Home in Rock Hill.Surviving are sons, Robert Knight of South Paris, Maine and Richard Knight of Skowhegan, Maine; daughters, Deborah Edwards of Oxford, Maine, Melanie Ballard, Jennifer Howie and Melissa Gordon, all of Indian Land, SC and Tammy Rakes of Lancaster, SC; brother, Keith Knight of Leominster, Mass.; sisters, Sylvia Knight of LA, Earlene Waterhouse of Bethel, Maine and Julia Wyatt of Littleton, Mass.; 23 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Jones Barfield Hodges Knight (2006).Memorials may be made to the Young at Hearts at Fort Mill Church of God, P.O.
