Mrs. Helen Smart Bryant, age 83, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Harbor Chase of Rock Hill.The funeral will be at Noon on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joel McMakin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Born in Whittier, N.C., Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late John Thomas Smart and Ida Belle Barnard Smart. After graduating from Hayesville High School, Helen went to live in Atlanta to attend business school and began her career at a law firm. It was in Atlanta that she met her future husband, Eugene “Gene” Bryant. They went to live Charlotte in 1969 where she was employed with American Studios. Moving to Indian Land, S.C. in 1976, they became active members of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her family and strong in her faith. Mrs. Bryant was well known for her cooking skills and also enjoyed cross stitching and sewing in her younger days.Surviving are two sons, Mike Bryant of Tega Cay and Terry Bryant (Lisa) of Columbia; her daughter, Kim Goode of Rock Hill; brother, Jack Smart of Hayesville, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Penland of Greenville and Emogene Barrett of Hayesville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Lisa, Drew, Phillip, Marta, Quincy, Madison, Jessica and Jonathan.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eugene “Gene” Bryant in 2011 and her siblings, James Smart, Doris Moore and John Smart, Jr.The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Fellowship Hall of Pleasant Hill U.M.C.Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill U.M.C. Building Fund, 238 Fort Mill Hwy., Indian Land, SC 29707; or to the American Lung Association of S.C., 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Helen and Gene were our neighbors many years ago in B H R. We had lots of good times together. Kim use to baby sit my kids. Terry and Mike were there too. Three good kids. I know they will miss their mom! She was a great lady; kind and gentle. Prayers go out to Kim, Terry, and Mike. Also other family too. I love you guys! Margaret

Helen was a Sweet, Sweet Lady ! Sandra and I have many great memories of Fun and Laughter with Helen and Gene ! We will miss her as we have missed Gene.
