Mr. Harvey “Buster” Reid Hood, age 84, died Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Barry Yates and the Rev. Daniel Porter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Hood was a son of the late Harvey Watson Hood and Leola Hadwin Hood. He graduated from Indian Land High School and DeVry University in Chicago with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Mr. Hood proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Tank Corp during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion Post 250. He was a retired engineer with WBTV - Jefferson Pilot Communications for more than 45 years. He was a lifetime member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed restoring and driving old cars and operating tractors; but his greatest love was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Jean Collins Hood; two daughters, Robin Cook (Butch) of Fort Mill and Pam Weatherford (Billy) of Rock Hill; three grandchildren, Cathaleen Gray (John), Amanda Lucas (Adam), and Tiffany Weatherford; two great-grandchildren, Harvey and Ella Gray; and his brother, Jim Hood of Indian Land. He was preceded in death by his brother, Barney Kell Hood.Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. A truly fine Gentleman has gone to meet the Lord. Buster loved his family, loved life, enjoyed fellowship and loved his antique cars.
