Fred ... Butts was my roommate my friend and my brother for a time when we were young, in love with life and looking forward with carefree smiles. To his family which I did not know I can only say I'm sorry this wonderful man with so many gifts was taken from you so soon. His smirk, wit and now the love he portrayed for his family in the pictures will truly be in my heart forever.

I am quite distressed to find out about Fred, as I have looked long and hard for him over these many years and to find out we've been only 2 hours apart all this time. We served in the 4th Infantry together, were very close, shared a room and had a lot of adventures. He was a great guy and had one of the best laughs I'd ever heard!
Here's a pic of "Butzy" from about 1977 while we were in the field. That's him at the top left. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Fred was the president of our ZAP fraternity in 73 Canton New York, We had the pleasure of living with him and enjoying his friendship and his humor. Even then he would repeat his funniest lines until we all knew them, and if he saw a movie that he liked he could role play the character. I remember him repeating Marlen Brando from the GodFather many times after it came out in 71. Great Athlete, great Fraternity brother and a fiend that our ZAP will miss very much.

I met Freddy at Brockport State. He roomed with Mike Metttleman from Utica, Ny. I was a freshman and he was the coolest guy I knew. He was from Roslyn, NY. I remember his father, Fred , Sr. Was an insurance agent. I had a car so I Lugged his trunk to the lower East side of Manhattan. I remember the 6’ 1” plus guy who I admired was so timid when his dad knocked on my 12th floor, project apartment to claim his trunk. I’ve been wanting to bust his chops ever since. I was so sad to learn of his passing. To this day I still remember him fondly. For such a long time I’ve wanted to say, “ hey, remember when... “. My sincere condolences to the family. My name is Bill. I’m currently working for the local cable company Altice. Just want to wish you all the best, and assure you, that Freddie was a positive influence to all who knew him. May you all remember him in the good light I do.
