He proudly served in the U.S. military playing tuba in the Army band while stationed in Germany. Frank was a hard worker holding a variety of jobs during his lifetime, including farming, driving a school bus, owning Vic's Aluminum Window and Door Company, and working as a utility supervisor at US Airways from which he retired in 1999. During retirement, he enjoyed cross stitching keepsakes for loved ones; building model trains, cars, and airplanes; and woodworking with friends making construction equipment scale models. Frank and Mary Kay were active in their church even traveling to Israel in their eighties. His age did not prevent him from using his gift of serving others. His willingness to travel to Haiti on a mission trip and serve on the board for Global Hope Project of Haiti is evidence of his helping heart. He is survived by his wife of 66 and 1/2 years, Mary Kay Warren Schwerthoffer; four children, Jill Schneider (Karl), Jay Schwerthoffer (Patti), Scott Schwerthoffer, all of Batavia, NY, and Kristen Wilson (Tommy) of Van Wyck, SC; his sister, Susan Lawrence of Corfu, NY; nine grandchildren, Justin, Abby, Bethany, Ethan, Allie, Evan, Madilynn, Anna Kate, and Judah; and eight great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Global Hope Project, c/o Geoff Graham, 2091 Durand Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
