Elizabeth Ervin Ford Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elizabeth Ervin Ford, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2022. She traveled around the country and world serving others, but always came home to Fort Mill. Elizabeth was born on July 20, 1943 to Thomas and Letha Ervin. She grew up on Nims Street and attended Fort Mill schools. On her 18th birthday, her Fort Mill High School sweetheart, George Ford, proposed, and they were married on February 24, 1962 at First Baptist Church, Fort Mill. After earning her cosmetology certification, Elizabeth worked as a stylist at a Charlotte salon until the birth of her first son, Shannon. As Elizabeth welcomed two more sons, Marty and Jason, she transitioned her career into serving others. She was a teacher’s aide at Riverview Elementary School and then the pastor’s secretary at First Baptist Church, Rock Hill. From 1978-2011 she completed 35 domestic and international mission trips, spreading God’s love to a world in need. Her work with non-profits began in 1995 with the American Cancer Society, and then she was the founding Executive Director of York County Christian Women’s Job Corps. She served faithfully at First Baptist Church, Fort Mill for more than 70 years. After retirement, Elizabeth devoted much of her time to preserving Fort Mill’s history and helping establish the Fort Mill History Museum. She was named Fort Mill’s Citizen of the Year in 2011. Elizabeth is survived by her sons Shannon (Aminie), Marty (Nicole), and Jason, as well as six grandchildren (Alex, Jordan, Will, David, Chloe, Julia), two great-grandchildren (Kirkley and Kate), and eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George, and her sisters, Patricia Crane and Fern Tingle. The family extends its appreciation to the staff members of Hospice & Community Care, White Oak Manor, The Pearl, and Autumn Leaves for the care they provided Elizabeth since the fall of 2017. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 PM on Monday, April 25 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on 121 Monroe White Street in Fort Mill. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Fort Mill. Donations in honor of Elizabeth may be made to First Baptist Church, Fort Mill and the Fort Mill History Museum. Wolfe Funeral Home is serving the Ford family.
