Bettye Daltroff Mackinson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bettye Daltroff Mackinson, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Piedmont Medical Center. A service to celebrate Bettye’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Wolfe Funeral Home at 314 Spratt Street in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Her family will receive friends following the service. Born in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, Bettye was the daughter of the late Maurice Lee Daltroff and Sarah Cox Daltroff. She attended St. Lawrence University and graduated from Keystone College with a major in music and business. She had a wonderful voice and was very active in Carolina Voices and its annual Singing Christmas Tree. In 2002, she was honored to be chosen as the Angel at the top of the tree. She also enjoyed singing with Notability and Festival Singers, especially at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, every year. Bettye taught kindergarten, music and art for 14 years at Indian Land School, in Indian Land, S.C. She left teaching to pursue a career in finance, working for Marion Bass and Merrill Lynch in Charlotte until she retired. Soon after, she became a seamstress in the costume department at Carowinds Amusement Park. Bettye enjoyed many hobbies. She loved ice skating in high school and college. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and made her children and grandchildren pajamas every Christmas throughout their entire lives. She worked tirelessly at quilt making, knitting and crocheting. She also dabbled in painting, and was an avid gardener and doll collector. She was a fanatical supporter of Clemson Tigers football. “Pancake Grandma,” as she was affectionately known, was energetic, motivated and making quilts right up to her very last day. Bettye is survived by four children, Connie Mackinson and husband Bill Sasiela of Bloomingdale, NJ, Larry Mackinson and wife, Betty of Charlotte, NC, Lee Mackinson and wife Maria Davila Sanabria of Rock Hill, SC, and Deirdre Tholen and husband Blake of Oxford, PA, twelve grandchildren, Katie Collins, Macks Collins, Jordan Sasiela, Rebecca Sasiela, India Mackinson, Ivy Mackinson, Ella Mackinson, Jeramie Mackinson, Ecco Mackinson, Roarke Tholen, Sarah Tholen, and Madeline Doltroff. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Shields Lee Daltroff, John Thomas Daltroff and Charles Wilbur Daltroff.
