Assunta "Sue" Whittaker

Assunta A “Sue” Whittaker, 92, passed away on December 1, 2019 at her home in Tega Cay, SC after a short illness. Born in Nyack, NY on April 5, 1927 she was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Mary Somma; brother, Alphonse; and sisters, Carmella Somma, Angelina Nickolopoulos, identical twin, Josephine Benson; and her beloved husband, Jack Whittaker.Over the years of her life, Sue and family resided in New York and Pennsylvania until being transferred to St. Albans, WV. She was primarily a homemaker but served her church, St. Francis of Assisi in various capacities. After the death of her husband in 1985, she volunteered for Hospice of Kanawha County, WV until moving to Bracey VA and subsequently to Matthews, NC and later to Tega Cay, SC.Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Mary Smith (Alan) of Tega Cay, SC; son, John (Terri) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Lara Whittaker, Kristina Kubal (Adam), Chris Whittaker; great-granddaughter, Kalette Kubal; sister, Louise Miele of Hyde Park, NY; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.A Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Sue will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, SC, with Father Fabio Refosco C.O. officiating.The family requests in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to: St. Philip Neri Catholic Church c/o Martha’s Meals Ministry 292 Munn Rd.
