Mrs. Thelma Kirby Hammond, 91, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Westminster Health & Rehab Center in Rock Hill.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen H. Radcliffe officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery. Born in Cordova, Alabama, Thelma was a daughter of the late B.B. Kirby and Ellen Green Kirby. She moved to Fort Mill in 1947 and was named Miss Fort Mill that same year. Thelma was formerly employed as a weaver with Springs Industries and as a packing clerk with Converse. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and her greatest loved was for her family especially her grands and great-grands.Surviving are two daughters, Dianne H. Patterson (Bill) of York and Debbie H. Black, of Rock Hill; twin sisters, Martha Mitchell (James) and Mary Castleberry, all of Alabaster, AL; five grandchildren, Alisha Patterson Curry (Dwayne), James Patterson (Kristen), Christopher Black (Christal), Paul Black (Leah), and Beth Black White (Travis); and seven great-grandchildren, Madeline Curry, Emma Patterson, Sarah Beth Patterson, Addison Black, John Hampton Black, Avery Black, and William Black. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Hammond (2017); brothers, Charles Kirby, J.B. Kirby, and Guy Kirby; and sisters, Velvie Owens, Ludie Johnson, Elsie Lowry, and Mildred Johnson, all of Alabama.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2018, at St. John’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, P.O.
