Mr. Robert Boyce Gibson, 97, of Clover, formerly of Fort Mill, died peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home beside his wife of 70 years.Born and raised in Fort Mill, Mr. Gibson was one of six children of the late James David Gibson and Fannie Mae Coltharp Gibson. He proudly served as a P-38 Crew Chief in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in both North Africa and Italy. He worked for and retired from the Celanese Corporation.Mr. Gibson was extraordinarily gifted with creative, mechanical abilities. His favorite activities were working in his garden, feeding and watching birds. He was a long-time member of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church.Survivors include his wife Lucille Kimbrell Gibson; son, Robert “Bob” Gibson (Laura) of Lake Wylie; daughter, Jeanne G. Jones of Union Hall, VA; three grandchildren, Ellen Gibson, Seth Jones and Brandy Curtis; great-grandson, Ethan.A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Becky Shirley officiating.
