Mr. Paul Schlagowsky, age 92, of Mint Hill and formerly of Fort Mill, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehab Center.Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Flint Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 269 Flint Hill Road in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Thomas Gibbs officiating. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Born in Fort Mill, S.C., Mr. Schlagowsky was a son of the late Joseph Bennett Schlagowsky and Flora Kimbrell Schlagowsky. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Schlagowsky was retired from Paul’s Carpet Service and was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington. He enjoyed gardening, boating and all sports especially playing golf. He was an avid Panther fan.Surviving are wife of 44 years, Barbara Boyd Schlagowsky; his children, Paul E. Schlagowsky of Fort Mill, Larry J. Schlagowsky of Waxhaw, N.C., David R. Schlagowsky of Charlotte, N.C. and Billie J. Phillips (Erik) of Wilmington, N.C. Robert W. Toney of Midland, N.C., Sandra E. Clubb of Charlotte, N.C. and Stephen L. Toney (Michelle) of Mint Hill, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. I remember sitting in his black van, he would tell me how he made rings out of quarters and some war stories. He was the most unique person I have ever met. Look up cool in the dictionary, it says Paul.
My sweet Uncle Paul will always be remembered as my "Cutie Pie," and one of the sweetest souls God ever placed on this Earth. He loved us all fiercely, yet in his quiet own manner. Paul was my oldest son's Godfather, and was so happy to be asked if he would do that... It gave him such pleasure to hold Brent as a baby, and watch him grow. He was so proud of Brent following in the family footsteps when he joined the Navy. We will not say goodbye, rather, see you again. Love you always.... ~ Suzanne and Family
A truly good person, a father to my long time friends and a good friend to me, he will no doubt find his reward in Heaven and smile down upon us.
There are no words to express the sadness I feel now for your loss. When the pain of death becomes overwhelming, we can turn to God in prayer. The Bible tells us to "throw all of your anxieties on him, because he cares for you," (1 Peter 5:7). Take comfort in knowing that he loves you and that "one day he will wipe tears from our eyes, and that death will be no more,"(Isaiah 25:8). I hope this scripture gives you peace and endurance during this time of bereavement.
