Mrs. Mildred Idella Hice Irvin, age 95, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Park Pointe Village in Rock Hill.The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:45 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2018, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Barry Yates officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Mrs. Irvin was one of six children born to the late Lemuel Evander Hice and Margaret Elinor Pyron Hice, and was the widow of John Lewis Irvin, Sr. She was a Charlotte native and moved to Indian Land around 1950 where her husband was raised. Mrs. Irvin retired from Celanese after 27 years of employment. Wanting to stay active she took courses at Queens College in Charlotte. She was a devoted member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where she taught adult women’s Sunday school for 40 years and was a member of the W.M.U. Following the death of her husband in 1983, she moved back to Charlotte where she became a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.Surviving are her son, John Lewis Irvin, Jr. (Jan) of Indian Land; her daughter, Kay Devinney (Bobby Ray) of Fort Mill; her son-in-law, Ted Carter; four grandchildren, Melissa Efird, Gene Carter, Carl Irvin and Kimberly Wood; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Carter; and her brothers, Clifford, Carl and Harrison Hice; and sisters, Edith Rembert and Helen Ballard.Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, SC 29707.
