Mary Ellen Atwater

Mary Ellen Atwater, a resident of Park Pointe Village, 3025 Chesbrough Blvd., Apt 2201, Rock Hill SC 29732, passed away July 2, 2014. She was born in Greensboro NC on July 11, 1936, the middle child of the late Ruth and Frank Rierson.She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James T. Atwater of Rock Hill, sons, Tom Atwater (wife Lisa) of Hickory NC and Mike Atwater (wife Maura) of Charlotte NC, grandchildren, Chris, Lindsay and Abigail; her sister, Patricia Smoak (husband Sam) of Greensboro NC; sister-in-law, Betty Rierson of Ararat NC; three nieces; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Rierson.Mary Ellen was a kindergarten/preschool teacher in both Greensboro and Charlotte. She later became the Preschool Director for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, followed by a tenure as Church Secretary for Trinity Presbyterian.In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to: Cokesbury UMC, 6701 IdJewild Rd., Charlotte NC 28212; or St Johns UMC, 321 South Oakland Ave., Rock Hill SC 29731; or PPV Independent Residents Association, 3025 Chesbrough Blvd., Rock Hill SC 29732.Memorial Services have been scheduled for Friday, July 11 at St Johns UMC at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service; and at Park Pointe Village on Saturday, July 12 at 2 PM.Read Obituary
