Jimmie R. Chapman

Mr. Jimmie Roger Chapman, 82, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at CMC-Pineville.The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Twitty and the Rev. Dr. Dan Griffin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.Born in Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Chapman was a son of the late James William Chapman and Reola Moss Chapman. He was a 1950 graduate of Fort Mill High School, was voted Most Friendly of his senior class, and was the MVP of the baseball team. He also played football and track. Mr. Chapman was an avid sportsman, a king fisherman, a golfer and a hunter. He was very involved in his church, Flint Hill Baptist, where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, a RA leader, a choir member, a trustee and he coached men’s and women’s softball teams. Mr. Chapman was a lifetime member of Flint Hill Fire Department where he served on the Board of Directors. The department recently renamed the “Most Dedicated Award” to “The Jimmie Chapman Award”. He was employed for 18 years at Nebel Knitting Co. and for 23 years at Duke Power at the Lake Wylie Hydro Station. He loved vegetable gardening and mowing grass.Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife Dorcas Faile Chapman; his daughter, Gemetta Stanford (Grier) of Charlotte; three sons, Jimmie Keith Chapman of Fort Mill, Jerry Roger Chapman (Shana) of Fort Mill and Joseph William Chapman (Penny) of Fort Mill; his sister, Emmagene Harper of Rock Hill; two brothers, Douglas Chapman (Eve) of Fort Mill and Robert Chapman of Smyrna, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Mixon (Mike), Keith Chapman, Brandon Stanford, Kari Valentine (Sergio), Will Chapman, Taylor Chapman, C.J. Chapman, Kennedy Chapman and five great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Flint Hill Baptist Church and other times at the home.Memorial contributions may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church Refurbishment Fund, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715Read Obituary
