Mr. James “Jim” William McLeod, Jr., 62, of Fort Mill, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill.Services for the family will be held at a later date.Born in Aberdeen, NC, Jim was a son of the late James William McLeod, Sr. and Betty Sykes McLeod. He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne/Ranger and later served with the Army Reserve. Jim attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was retired from the Charlotte Observer and the Rock Hill Herald. He enjoyed hiking and was an avid dog lover.Surviving are his sister, Georgianne Howell of Fort Mill; his brother, Scott McLeod of Seven Lakes, NC.

Oh Jim, I didn't know you were sick, my friend. We shared many laughs together, hard work, good days and not-so-good days at The Observer. How fitting that the last place I saw you was at a car dealership....oh the days! Rest easy my friend. You are loved!

I am deeply saddened to hear this news about Jim. I hired Jim back at The Observer many years ago. He was always very kind to me. He was always ready with a joke and a smile. More recently I enjoyed the photos of his hobbies on Facebook. I will miss him very much.
