Mr. James E. Crews, 80, passed away November 17th, 2017 in Columbia.His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21st, 2017, at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Deffinger officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.Born in South Boston, Virginia, James was a son of the late Ruth Morris Crews and Harrell Lee Crews. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army. He and was an excellent marksman, receiving the commendation of “Sharp Shooter”. James worked for Crowder Construction as a foreman building bridges. Having natural musical talent, he could play many instruments. He was well known for playing dobro with Joe Moore and the Jordan River Boys. James was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where he served as deacon.Surviving are his wife, of 54 years Margaret L. Crews; his two sons, David and George; four grandchildren, Bradley, Serena, Rachel and Justin; his three sisters in Virginia: Brenda, Shelby and Bernice; as well as two great-grandkids, Paulann and Silas and his “fur baby”, Peanut. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Reginal Elwood Crews.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 20th, 2017, at Wolfe Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to Wolfe Funeral Home for the funeral fund, P.O. Miss you very dearly papaw..what can i say besides damnit we cant make Christmas fudge together this year lol just kidding i will surely miss that..or how bout all those huntington beach state park trips always tremendous even when it rained the whole week long you and granny surprised me and justin with the ripleys aquarium trip...every morning when the family has been over spending time with granny since you passed i have been using your coffee cups for my coffee..i love you and hug granny crews,hambone,michael(perk) and my dearest serenity for me
James was like a dad to me when I was a kid. I rode with him a meany time playing Dobro with the Jordon River Boys .Me and his boys have always Been friends and Louise what can I say what a beautiful lady and wife and mother.
