Mrs. Dorothy Rainey Richards, 86, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill on the morning of August 15, 2014. Born in Blanche, Tennessee on November 7, 1927, Mrs. Richards was the daughter of John Selvin Rainey and Thora Bailes Rainey. Dot attended Martin Junior College in Pulaski, TN. It was there that she met her husband, Charles Franklin Richards; they married in 1951. In 1963, they moved to Fort Mill into a world of close knit friends and families they had never imagined possible. Member of St. John’s Methodist Church, Dot was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, John Selvin Rainey, Jr., and James Donald Rainey. Survivors include her daughter, Terry Richards Patterson and her husband, Timothy Walker Patterson, of Fort Mill, SC; and a granddaughter, Rainey Elizabeth Patterson of Gainesville, FL. Always wise and sometimes strong-willed, Dot’s patience was often tested by Charley, but as a team they set a wonderful example of lives well lived. They fully appreciated their time together as well as their time apart. Dot took advantage of Charley’s hunting trips to read a book or tend her flowers in the yard. They enjoyed the mutual love of family, good friends, and a good time. Services will be private but the family will receive friends at the Patterson residence on Sunday August 17th from 3 to 7 p.m. Memorials be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, South Carolina, 29731 (www.hospicecommunitycare.org); or St. John's Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1298, Fort Mill, SC 29716.
