Billie Arrie Hannon, 87, of Fort Mill, SC entered into the arms of our Lord on October 4, 2014.He was born August 15, 1927 to the late Arrie E. Hannon and Neva Taylor Hannon. Billie was a life-long member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Fort Mill.Mr. Hannon was born, raised, and lived in Fort Mill until he went to reside at Agape Senior Living, Rock Hill, SC. During his career, Bill owned and operated Foremost and Farmbest Dairies (Distributorships) in Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Chester, York, Clover and McConnells. Upon selling his business in the early seventies, Mr. Hannon became the York County Road Supervisor until his second retirement in 1993.Prior to beginning his career, Bill served in the United States Navy where he received an American Area Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Bill then transferred to S.C. Army National Guard until his retirement in 1985. His length of service was thirty-three years. Among his awards were an Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Two Hour Glasses, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and an Active State Service Medal with Thirty Year Device. His Fraternal and Civic Affiliations included, the Fort Mill Moose Lodge, Catawba Lodge AFM #56, American Legion Post #43, Hejaz Temple AAONMS of Greenville, S.C. and Campbell Council # 18 R&SM. He was also a charter member of the Fort Mill Volunteer Fire Department.Bill was always at home with nature and animals. He purchased Flat Rock Ranch on the outskirts of Fort Mill in 1961. He enjoyed many years farming, hunting, raising livestock and spending time with his wife, three children and eventually his grandchildren. Bill was known for his gregarious personality and opening his generous heart and home to all. He loved to entertain at “The Farm” ... hosting pig-roasts, horseback riding, picnics and his infamous New Years Eve & Fourth of July Celebrations.Mr. Hannon shared a love of humanity and humankind with his wife, Glenn, of sixty-two years. Together they unofficially adopted many into their fold, making sure they were loved, fed, and sheltered. Bill was a humble man who always had a listening ear for anyone who needed advice, a warm meal or a place to rest a weary head. He was compassionate, charitable and very kind ... a true humanitarian.Mr. Hannon was predeceased by his parents, Arrie and Neva Hannon, sister, Nancy Avaleen Minkoff. He was also predeceased by his wife, Glenn Morgan Proctor Hannon, son William “Billy” Arrie Hannon; and a grandson, William Bert Hannon.Surviving are daughter’s Rebecca Hannon Terry (Del) and Margaret Hannon Pomeroy (Jon); his daughter-in-law, Kay Bayne Hannon; four grandchildren, Beth Nies Anderson, Chris Nies, Kalei Hannon and Lex Hannon; and two great-grandchildren, Lee and Joshua Anderson. Billie is also survived by his beloved care-giver, Victoria Lambert. Mr. Hannon’s daughters credit Vicki for giving their daddy a purpose and a reason to live, while Parkinson’s Disease ravaged his mind and body. Vicki honored Bill daily with her allegiance, faithfulness and loyalty. She provided a genuine love and dignity, never wavering until his death. Vicki was the one constant in his life and she was fiercely devoted.Becky and Margaret request in lieu of any memorials or contributions, that you visit your parents, grandparents or a person in need, read a story, sing a song, or share some memories. Volunteer in a nursing home, church or hospital. Share a hug, listen quietly and never let your loved one be forgotten.Masonic rites will be at 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel.
